Breaking Out of Education’s Disempowering Paradigm

After engaging fully in Illuminating Pathways 1 and 2, you’ll be highly motivated to move education beyond its deeply entrenched 19th Century thinking, beliefs and assembly-line template of learning, performance and the future.  This third IP directly assists you as it exposes the crumbling legitimacy of education’s disempowering boxed-in paradigm and status quo culture, and replaces them with an inspiring, dynamic, empowering alternative paradigm:  Transformational Outcome-Based Education (TOBE).

Hand in hand we will create new “outside the box” possibilities that will elevate your thinking, shift your paradigm, transform your organization, and empower your learners and colleagues.  You’ll learn:

  1. How to use my unique sociological TOBE approach to systemically change education’s disempowering status-quo structures and functions;
  2. How genuinely future-focused TOBE dramatically elevates and deepens learning, curriculum, instruction, and assessment; and
  3. How advanced TOBE components and practices elevate and transform limiting beliefs about learner potential and performance.

TOBE’s remarkable fifty-year evolution is described in my 2020 book, Outcome-Based Education’s Empowering Essence, now available on amazon.com.  It’s a prerequisite for participating in this IP, and we’ll use it as a constant reference as you practice: 

  • Leading and implementing the future-focused Strategic Design process that yields frameworks of empowering life-performance outcomes and supporting curricula;
  • Creating an empowering organization mission and culture that fully aligns with and fosters these significant life-enhancing outcomes;
  • Immersing yourself in the paradigm thinking and operating principles that undergird TOBE’s “Success for All” philosophy and expand the “Conditions of Success” for learners;
  • Designing and implementing learning, scheduling, and opportunity systems that are time-flexible, student-responsive, and empowering;
  • Employing instructional practices that develop self-motivated, self-directed, self-assessing, and self-renewing learners and graduates; and
  • Designing and implementing an authentic, criterion-defined assessment, grading, and record-keeping system that encourages and validates continued improvement in all aspects of learning, performance, and personal development.

You’ll soon realize that implementing these six components is the inspiring escape route that enables us to break out of education’s disempowering paradigm.  Better yet, your students and colleagues will praise you for the expanded clarity, empowering opportunities, and future-focused improvements that unfold for them once they’ve been liberated by TOBE.
